The First Snow Of the Season

#FakeFurCoat #FakeLeatherPants

Funny fact, when I started to take pictures for my "first snow of the season look" it actually started to snow. So, the white points and stripes in today's picture are the first snowflakes of the season and not a broken camera.

While I am still on the hunt for a coloured fake fur coat, I like to borrow this black one from my mom. Yes, it is vintage, but  I love the oversized style of the coat. To give the look some shape and structure, I opted for this skinny leather-like coated jeans. Instead of adding colour to the look, I played with different fabrics.

Did it already start to snow in your hometown?

#FurJacket #OvertheKneeBoots

Happy St. Nicholas' Day! Here in Germany, we are celebrating St. Nicholas' Day. St. Nicholas gifts presents to all the children and adults who have been nice throughout the last year.

Now back to today's outfit post. I am wearing two of my winter essentials a fur jacket and over-the-knee boots. As someone who feels cold most of the time, I use a fur vest as an additional layer to keep me from freezing during the cold season. On milder days, I love to wear a fur vest as a winter jacket replacement.

I know over-the-knee boots are a sensible subject. While I love them as a stylish fashion item, others place it in the "Julia Roberts as Vivian in Pretty Woman" category. I feel it is a matter of execution. As long as the fabric of the boots is high-quality, there is nothing tacky about this kind of boots at least for me. Oh, and of course, these heeled over-the-knee boots don't work when snow falls and it is getting slippery, but until then they are on repeat.

Do you wear or pass over-the-knee boots?

#Chapter5 #BoyfriendSweater

Here I am back with another Sweater Look.

This time I went for a style-mix between a hoodie from the men section and a metallic silver skirt. I love the contrast of male and female elements in fashion. They bring a unique edgy vibe to the look.

For an evening out I would change the hoodie for a men's jacket and opt for some high heels instead of boots.

Do you like to incorporate men's wear into your wardrobe?

#Chapter4 #Fringes #Studs

I am stepping up the sweater game with some serious fringe and studs detailing in the back.

Although the fringe details are black, they are unmissable due to their length and the fact that they cover the entire back. At a laid table, I am at risk to dip into the food with my fringes. So what, these are the things you get through in the name of fashion.

Oh, and I finally got my hands on a fanny pack. I love the stud detailing on this one, but I have to size up for the next one because my mobile phone hardly fits in. I think I go for a more rectangular shape the next time.

What are your thoughts on the sweater and the fanny pack?

#ChapterThree #Embellishments

Embellishments on any type of clothing are a big thing this season. Of course, I, as a lover of all things bling, couldn't let this trend pass by and bought this pearl embellished hoodie.

I must confess I am not an unconditional wearer of pearls. I find they can easily look old-fashioned. For example, I don't own a pair of pearl earrings, because I feel I look like I jumped out of a hundred-year-old picture into the present.

However, the combination of hoodie and distressed details put a really modern twist on the pearl embellishments. For a business appointment, I would combine the sweater with a pencil skirt and tuck it in.

Do you like pearls?

#ChapterTwo #PonchoSweater

Welcome back to round 2 of my Sweater Edition. This time I am stepping up the sweater game with fringed sleeves and a massive turtleneck.

I love this knitted mohair poncho-style sweater because on mild winter days it replaces a jacket and on cold winter days the sweater is an extra layer to keep me from freezing.

I have to admit the fringes can be challenging when it comes to jackets. The sleeves have to offer enough room for the fringes, otherwise moving my arms becomes difficult. But other than that, I love the Sweater for the cold season. Oh and to achieve an edgier look, I switch the jeans for leather pants.

What do you think about this sweater?

#Chanel Vibes

- Chanel Jacket on a budget -

I have to make a fashion confession, I love blazers on others but hardly ever on myself. I cannot count the many times I saw a blazer jacket and thought this is my go-to piece. But when I try the blazer on, the look usually doesn't meet my expectations. So, I filed myself under the category, not a blazer-kind-of girl.

However, when I discovered this Chanel inspired blazer jacket on the Zara website I couldn't help but order it. To my surprise, I actually liked how it looks on me. So maybe, I found my go-to blazer.  For a daytime look, I combined this embellished sweater to achieve a more laid-back look: But I can't wait to create other looks with this blazer jacket.

Do you like the blazer jacket as much as I do?

#TURTLENECK Dress

- One dress, so many options -

There is no way around, the temperatures are that low, especially in the morning and evening hours, that a turtleneck is my go-to-style option.

This black knitted turtleneck dress is a favourite of mine because the style options are endless. For a 9 to 5 workday, I go for this sleek look like pictured in the shots. If it gets colder, I combine a long wool winter coat in a blush tone or the same grey as my boots.

For an evening out, I switch the boots for some sparkly heels, add some statement bracelets and a sequin clutch to turn up the glam vibes. To get an edgier look, I grab some biker boots and a leather jacket and am ready to conquer the day's challenges. For those of you who like the casual vibes, I would opt for a pair of sneakers and a bomber jacket.

Which style is your favourite?

#Vinyl Pants #Cozy Knits

- How to style Vinyl Pants -

I know Vinyl Pants are not everyone's cup of tea. That's why I want to share with you my style tricks to make Vinyl Pants wearable for every day.

Yes, I admit Vinyl Pants are tricky to style. They can easily look cheap. To avoid this, I combine Vinyl Pants with softer fabrics like wool or silk, for example. The combination of Vinyl Pants with a  more exquisite textile creates an interesting contrast instead of a questionable look. I also prefer to combine more oversized pieces with these slim fitted Vinyl Pants. Again, to balance out this "in your face" pants. For me, this contrast between soft and hard creates a stylish yet wearable everyday look.

A velvet blazer would be another great option to wear with Vinyl Pants.

 #ChapterOne #CasualVibes

As you can guess from the heading, over this fall/winter season, I will share with you some sweater related Outfit Post.

For me, a sweater is not a piece of clothing I only wear on a lazy day at home. On the contrary, I wear a sweater for a casual daytime look as well as for a girls night out. It's all about the styling. So, let's get started.

For this look, I opt for a black oversized hoodie with zipper detailing on each side and combined it with a jacket in my favourite print - camouflage. To give the oversized camouflage jacket more shape I rolled up the sleeves. I love this look, for days when I have to run errands or for meeting friends.

#Dressing through the seasons

- How to wear your summer maxi dress in the fall -

Here comes my first fall Outfit Post of the year. I am sure you all have pieces of clothing in your wardrobe you love so much you want to wear them all year around. For me, this blue Michael Kors dress is one of those pieces.

Due to its light sheer fabric, this dress works great for chillier summer days. Then again, the long sleeves of this dress offer the possibility to wear it throughout the year.

I decided against the common option - opaque stockings - to transfer this Michael Kors dress from summer to fall. Instead, I opted for Vinyl Pants which are another big trend this fall/winter season. I admit they are tricky to style and can easily go hoochie mama. Therefore, I always combine vinyl pants with luxurious fabrics like silk or cashmere, for example.

How do you transfer your favourite summer pieces into the fall season?

- Someone said blue does look good on me -

So, this will be the last post with me wearing heeled sandals for this season. This time for real.

I shoot this look on the last sunny days in August hence the sandals. Due to the stormy and rainy weather here in Nothern Germany, I would now wear some ankle boots with this look and add a leather jacket. I think it is officially time to move my summer wardrobe to the side and bring out my autumn/winter clothing.

Sad but true: This is probably one of the last Outfit Post for this year where I am wearing sandals.

While I was shooting this look, autumn already showed his face with some rainy interruptions.

Anyways, back to the outfit, I am already thinking about combos to transition this crop top into the upcoming fall/winter season. As I am not the biggest fan of the socks with sandals, I will probably put the velvet sandals away until next summer.

#Leather Jacket Chronicles

- In case of doubt, wear a leather jacket -

Another post, another leather jacket.

So, we have officially entered the phase of transitional dressing.

Here in Northern Germany, the mornings are already very chilly while midday temperatures still call for a t-shirt. In this case, I usually grab for a leather jacket, so I don't have to peel off several layers of clothing throughout the day, just the leather jacket. Oh, and yes this is the same leather jacket like the wine-red one from last weeks post just in grey... but you can never have enough leather jackets.

#Camouflage Dress

- 3 Pieces One Look-

Today's look contains only clothing I bought on my Rome vacation.

All three pieces were love at first sight and were on my wishlist for quite some time.

As I told you before, khaki and camouflage prints have become one of my favourite colours/prints lately. Therefore, I'm always on the hunt for new khaki pieces. When it comes to leather jackets, I believe you can never have enough of them. Oh, and the nude sandals were on my list for two years, as you all know from my recent posts.

That all three pieces make a look, wasn't my intention but rather a lucky coincidence.

My Style

- Fashion items I would never quit wearing -

With My Style, I am sharing with you those fashion items I wear on repeat no matter if they are currently in style or not.

These fashion items are those who over time became my signature look. The one piece I wear on a daily basis and everyone who knows me would use to describe My Style are Hoop Earrings. The bigger the better.

Earrings were always my thing. I got my ears pierced when I was two years old. Since then I am wearing earrings almost every day. Of course, I started out with age appropriate earrings like tiny butterflies, hearts, or ladybugs. My first Hoops were only 1 cm big and the beginning of a never-ending love affair. Since then I scaled up my Hoops to sometimes door knocker sized ones.

For some people, Hoops are too "ghetto". For me, they are the complete opposite. Due to their various designs, Hoops are versatile and work with everything. From a casual daytime to a fancy evening look. So it is safe to say that the Hoops and I will not separate any time soon.

What is your right or die fashion item?

#TULLE SKIRT #BlackShirt

- Daytime Princess Vibes -

Today's look is the most playful one on my blog, so far. I usually opt for a pair of jeans instead of a skirt, because it is so much more convenient. However, I have to admit wearing a skirt makes me feel more feminine in an instant. I even think, my posture and walk changes a little bit.

Anyways, back to the look. For many, this skirt belongs under "evening wear". I love to take this kind of pieces and transform it into a daytime look.

Actually, I wanted to go for a "Ballerina meets Rock Chic" look by combing a leather jacket. Unfortunately, none of my leather jackets worked with the skirt.

So, I went for my strappy black chain sandals and a studded oversized clutch to keep the envisioned "Rock Chic" vibes alive.

#gingham #distresseddenim

- Check, Check, Check -

I'm back on track after last weeks shake-ups.

The sandals, as well as the jeans, are a souvenir from my Rome vacation. Both were on Sale. The Gingham Top was love at first sight when I first discovered it back in April on ASOS.

I am still in love with it, although I have to admit it is more difficult to style than I expected. A complete outfit with this top can easily look a little bit over the top. So I had to find something to balance out the loudness of the top. My solution the heavy distressed denim because the rips and the uneven hemline take away something of the in your face vibe of the Gingham Top.

What do you think?

I know it is the first day of the month where I usually post my Monthly Vibes, but I wanted to keep up the midweek outfit post routine. That's why I pushed my Monthly Vibe to Friday.

Today's look is my take on the Logo Shirt Trend on an everyday basis. To avoid an overly casual vibe, I kept the look monochromatic. For me, an outfit in the same colour range always looks more elevated. Besides, monochromatic looks are another big trend right now.

#RainyDays

- The forgotten file -

This post should have featured a summer look of mine, but the weather has scotched that. It is raining cats and dogs for a week now. Hence, it was not possible to take pictures.

I accepted the fact that I had to postpone my weekly Outfit Post, but then I stumbled upon a file with pictures I took around Easter this year and voilà my weekly Outfit Post was back on track.

Granted most of the pieces except the sweater are pieces you already saw in other posts, but luckily not in this combination. I wore this look for a casual day filled with running errands and a trip to the movies in the end. The sweater is an oldie but a goodie. The Marilyn Monroe print always brings that certain something to a simple jeans and sweater look.

#FLATS #Denim

- An unexpected twist-

Yes, your eyes are not deceiving you, I am wearing flats.

I must admit I would have preferred heels, but two years ago my rose nude heeled sandals broke beyond repair. Since then I am on the hunt for a replacement. Unsuccessfully so far, and because I thought this outfit needed a nude pair of shoes, I combined the only nude pair I own right now these flats. Not that I don't like them, but like you all know I am a heels girl.

The denim of the jumpsuit is really lightweight, so it is ideal for summer. As the next rain shower isn't never far away here in Northern Germany, it never hurts to bring a jacket or in this case, the ruffled bomber.

Does anyone of you have a tip where I can purchase a new pair of nude heeled sandals? Please let me know.

- To tuck or not to tuck -

Finally, the rain is gone. Nonetheless, the weather is still anything else but sunny. So I have to dress for those days where the sun doesn't shine, it is too warm for two layers but too cold for short-sleeved clothes.

On those days I always go for lightweight shirts. This black/white striped shirt is actually a bargain I made two seasons ago. Luckily, Stripes are back this summer, so it is still on rotation. I combined my current favourite distressed Mum jeans and spiked open-toe booties to achieve an edgier look instead of a more polished one.

#Bohovibes

- Maxi Skirt Diaries Part II -

Due to the lack of sun for the last ten days, my legs are still white as snow. That's why, I reached for my favourite Maxi Skirt when the sun finally decided to show its face again, to get back into the swing of summer fashion.

This Maxi Skirt was actually the first one I bought, a few years ago and it is still my number one. I love the Boho feeling of it, the way the different layers move around my legs while walking as well as the fact that the skirt has pockets, it's so convenient. Oh, and like many of my clothing, this skirt is... you might already guess it...versatile.

I have worn it with tank tops, sweaters, leather jackets for various occasions from casual to more dressy. Yesterday, I decided to wear this Maxi Skirt with my asymmetric white shirt. The combo almost looks like a one piece, don't you think?

Denim on Denim

- My three tips on how to make the Denim on Denim trend work -

Okay, I am aware that the Denim on Denim Trend is a controversial one. You either love or hate it. Also, the execution of it can be tricky.

Like many others, I was quite sceptical about the Denim on Denim Trend. I thought it might look too forced or create those awkward matchy-matchy vibes.  However, after playing around with some looks, I found my formula for making the Denim on Denim Trend work.

First, go for different denim shades like I did in this look. Worn together the contrasting shades of denim create an almost non-visible Denim on Denim look if you know what I mean.

Secondly, play with different shapes. I went for on oversized denim shirt and a slim fitting Mom jeans to avoid those awkward matchy-matchy vibes.

Finally, combine different textures. My denim shirt has an over-bleached used look, while my jeans are just simple, clean blue jeans. With no rips or other enhancements to it. The different textures create an ease to the look, eliminating the overdone factor.

So here you have it, my three tips on how to rock the Denim on Denim Trend. I hope this was helpful.

#Ruffles #Denim

- A new spin on a fashion classic -

To my great delight, Denim has secured its place in fashion. Gone the days when Denim was only suitable for leisure time. Over the last years, Denim got more and more fashionable by transforming seasonal trends in Denim Wear.

The Ruffled Denim Jacket of today's look is an example of the Denim Goes Fashion trend.

I love this Ruffled Denim Jacket because it is one of those versatile pieces I can wear 24/7 for different occasions. On a date night, I would combine it with a little black dress and for a girls night out with leather pants and a camisole.

Oh and as you probably have noticed, I am wearing Denim on Denim in today's look. In Friday's post, I will share with you how I make Denim on Denim work.

So, until Friday...

Wardrobe Must-Have

#WhiteShirt #BlueJeans

- Wardrobe classics with a twist -

One of the things I love most about fashion is how it constantly reinvents itself.

While I think a White Shirt and a pair of Blue Jeans never go out of style, I also think a seasonal overhaul never hurt anyone. So instead of the classic White Shirt and Blue Jeans, I opt the Cold Shoulder Shirt and Side Striped Jeans. I love how the seasonal revamping of both items turn classic wardrobe staples into a trendy look.

Which version do you prefer the classic or the trendy one?

Lace is one of those versatile fabrics that work for so many occasions. I love that you can style it in a very feminine, alluring way but also very daytime appropriate.

Due to the missing lining of my cotton Lace Top, it immediately creates some sexy vibes. To maintain an everyday suitability, I decided to go low key for the rest of the look. I went for distressed black jeans and some wedges. Did I mention that black and blue is one of my favourite colour combos?

Wardrobe Must-Have

#Camisole

-A fashion all-rounder -

A Camisole is another Wardrobe Must-Have in my closet especially in the summertime but also throughout the year as a layering piece.

In Germany, the weather is quite unsettled. So for this summer days when I am not sure how the weather turns out, I'll go for a Camisole, a pair of jeans, and a leather jacket. This way I am well prepared for warmer as well as slightly chillier temperatures.

I also like a Camisole for dressier summer looks combined with wide leg pants or a skirt.

# Denim Jumpsuit

- Getting in ready in no time -

A Jumpsuit is another Wardrobe Must-Have that shouldn't be missing in a women's closet, in my opinion.

Jumpsuits are the best option for a busy life. First, you are dressed in no time. Secondly, you'll always look pulled together. Thirdly, most Jumpsuits can easily be transformed from day to evening looks, and last but not least they are always comfortable.

Styled like this, is how I would wear this Denim Jumpsuit for a casual day where I run some errands and meet friends.

For an evening out, I would replace the mules with some sparkly heeled sandals, put on a black lace bra, undo another button to let the bra peek through, swap the bag for a clutch, and of course, go bolder on the jewellery

#VELVET SANDALS

- Stepping into warmer wardrobe vibes -

At the moment it looks like the sun is here to stay in Northern Germany... meaning I can finally put on my Strappy Velvet Sandals that live in my shoe cabinet since early January.

The Velvet Sandals are joined, by another longtime cabinet-inhabitant... my Ankle Bracelet. To be honest, I haven't worn it in a looong time. It fell into my hands while digging through my jewellery box for something else and my love reignite.

The Ankle Bracelet may not be the wanted item of the moment, but it reflects my style a thousand percent. So it had to make an appearance on one of my Outfit Posts.

These two are joined by some other current favourites of mine... the ASOS Farleigh Jeans, this time in acid pink and a top with Statement Sleeves. Although the top is long-sleeved, its Swiss embroidery creates a lightness that makes it summer suitable.

#Maxi Skirt #Straw Trilby

- Introducing some of my summer favourites -

Last Sunday, for the first time this year we had summer temperatures. So I took the opportunity to put on a couple of my summer favourites a Maxi Skirt and a Straw Trilby.

You may have noticed by now I love clothing which is versatile. A Maxi Skirt is one of those pieces. With the right styling, you can easily transition your summer Maxi Skirt into the colder months, but I will go into depth about this in a few month. For now, let's concentrate on the summer vibes.

On its own, this coral pleated Maxi Skirt is on the more sophisticated side. Combined with a classic white shirt, it would be a great combo for business dinner. To tone down these polished vibes of the Maxi Skirt, I opted for a plain grey linen tank top.

The other key piece of the outfit, the Straw Trilby is a souvenir from last year's summer holiday. You'll probably see this or some other headgear in a few other outfit posts because, in my opinion, they bring that extra something to a look. Plus hats are a great way to protect your face from sun damage, double win.

What are your favourite summer garments?

"KHAKI GARMENTS"

       - Khaki is the new Black -

From now on every now and then, I will share with you, my Wardrobe Must-Haves and how I style them.

Over the last few years, my love for Khaki-coloured clothing has grown tremendously. I find Khaki is a great alternative to black. Like black, it can be styled with almost everything and for many different occasions.

For this look, I wanted to show you how I wear Khaki pants for an everyday look. Since Khaki is a neutral shade, I like to combine an eye-catcher with it, in this case, this bi-coloured leather jacket. I kept the rest of it in black to avoid a style -overkill. Oh and of course I couldn't go a day without some signature earrings almost always hoops.

What is your Wardrobe Must-Have?

P.S.: As Khaki has made is way up to one of my favourite colours, you might see some other Khaki styles on here.

Daytime Glamour

- How to wear a Statement Sweater on a daily base -

Remember back in March when I told you that Statement Sweaters are a big trend for this season? Well, here is my take on how to wear a Statement Sweater on a daily base.

This Sequin Embellished Sweater combines three seasonal trends in one -  ruffles, sequins, and a distressed hemline. For many people, sequins are only suitable for evening occasions. As you can probably tell, I highly disagree. Like I said many times before, you can make almost every piece of clothing work. The key to success lies in the way you style and mix fabrics, this makes or breaks a look.

With that in mind, I kept the rest of my outfit very casual to balance out the Sequin Statement Sweater. I combined a light washed distressed mom jeans, some heels, and a snake print clutch (of course just a print, not real snakeskin!), and a minimum of jewellery. To keep the focus on the Sweater, I opted for lighter colours to complete the look.

P.S.: For an evening look I would switch the jeans for black leather pants or a pencil skirt depending on the event.

Do you wear sequins during the day?

Statement Heels

- All eyes on the heels -

Today I wanna show you that heels can elevate your outfit to another level, even a simple jeans, and sweater look.

It's safe to say I have a slight obsession for high heels. In case of doubt, I always opt for a pair of heels to complete my look.

Anyways, besides my heels addiction, I strongly believe, shoes can make or break your whole outfit.

These heels were love at first sight. Right away I knew they would elevate the plainest outfit into a real eye catcher. To prove my point, I combined the heels with jeans and a grey sweater. Sure, a sweater with the statement sleeves is a big trend this season. Moreover, this one is picking up the floral theme of the high heels. Nonetheless, I feel the heels are the key pieces which elevate this look from mundane to stylish. What do you think?

- You make my heart sing -

So here it is my first Outfit PostFrom now on this kind of posts will be a regular on Shades of K.

I am still contemplating if I take one of my regular blog post days (Monday/Friday) and replace it with an outfit post or if I add an extra day to my posting schedule? Maybe Wednesdays? What do you think?

For my first Outfit post, I choose a fashion classic an Animal Print ShirtAn Animal Print never goes out of style. Sure there are seasonal fluctuations. Nonetheless, almost every season you find at least one designer incorporating animal print into their collection.

I always go for a modern instead of the classic look. That's why I opt for a semi- sheer boyfriend shirt rather than a classic blouse.  Lately, I've been replacing more and more my beloved Skinny Jeans with a slim fitting Mom Jeans. In order, to let the Animal Print Shirt be the star of the show, I combined it with only black pieces.
